Laziness
Marc Isaac Potter

Grandma cannot find her silver watch—
the one her husband Mervin gave her for their 50th.

Ten months ago she mistook Gerald for her husband.
Today she is convinced the service dog is Mervin.

Charlie, the Standard French Poodle, barks quietly, explaining that
he is not Mervin. Not even a little bit.

Grandma drops her arms into her lap,
exhausted.

Exhaustion is settling more thoroughly
into this permanent home.
