Burial

Ethan Vilu

A soft, tired shape inters itself
in a crooked spire of water. Soft and sweet,
glimmering close, the quiet body’s
death rattle a music box, a spiral bell. You say
you know that voice. I think I’ve heard it also:
a quick, quiet clattering
of the inner breakers, wave-form sleep,
soft and out of place.

It gifts to me
my tired moments, wasted; my faded motives.
I hate to see it go. I wonder what it said
in time to you. In truth, I’ll never know.
