i have counted the oceans between us / & i think

if i stretch my thumb / from the eastern slope of my stratovolcano / & touch with my little finger / the peak of your three-horned mountain

if i pinch back the waves / fold the islands into the coastline / & beg the moon / to change her tides
i can bridge our continents / merge your sunrise with my noon sky / until the space separating us / is only the width of your palm / pressed / to mine
